Establishing and maintaining values in society by advanceing the cause of education in general and secondary education in particular. Encouraging the spirit of brotherhood and intellectual cooperation among the members with traditional dignity and moral standard of the profession.Securing the professional interests of the teachers of secondary schools and promoting the same as well. Organizing the educational experiments and researches in collaboration with government and non-government.Advising and guiding the government bodies and boards considering teaching a social service and it is not a job as done by public servants.
Before the independence of India to conserve most interest of teachers and education system of India the All Bengal Teachers’ Association(ABTA) was formed. All teachers of undivided Bengal was the members of that unique association. After division of Bengal at the time of construction of East Pakistan which is now Bangladesh the managing committee of ABTA decided that two teachers’ organization would be formed from old organization ABTA. One would be East Bengal Teachers’ Association by the teachers of East Bengal and other would be West Bengal Teachers’ Association by the teachers of West Bengal. On 6th may 1949 West Bengal Teachers’ Association (WBTA) got registration under the 21st clause of society act 1860. In that time two teachers’ organizations were given their owing fund from ABTA . It was also decided that ABTA would be extinct in step by step. But organizing so many meeting ABTA could not able to get 60% of members in a meeting. So the final decision on extinction of ABTA had been hanging.
